Norway Salary Calculator
Estimates net salary from gross annual pay using trygdeavgift, trinnskatt and the flat 22% tax on ordinary income — based on 2026 rates set by the Norwegian government.
How Norwegian salary tax works
Your net salary in Norway is what's left after three separate deductions from gross pay: a flat 22% tax on ordinary income (after your personal allowance), trinnskatt — a progressive "step tax" that adds extra percentage points as your income crosses certain thresholds, and trygdeavgift — a national insurance contribution that funds sick pay, parental leave, unemployment benefits and pension.
Because trinnskatt is progressive, your marginal tax rate (the rate on your next krone earned) is higher than your average tax rate (total tax divided by total income). This matters when comparing job offers or negotiating a raise — a bonus at the top of your income is taxed more heavily than your first krone.
This calculator gives a simplified estimate for a standard employee. It doesn't account for things like union dues (which are often tax-deductible), commuter deductions, interest on debt, or church tax (which applies only in some municipalities) — all of which can shift your actual net pay slightly. For an exact figure, check your skattemelding (tax return) or the official calculator at skatteetaten.no.
